Statistics & clean library. Detects cropped files.

The new release 0.9.8 brings a clean library design and song statistics to differentiate slow/fast, monoton/melodic, smooth/bumpy songs and detect leaps or holds.

I have included a new error check, "missing end", that could cause some frustration. At least it frustrated me when I found more than a dozen of cropped text files in my collection. Most likely this was caused by lines with missing spaces after characters ":-F*"; this are now completed on-the-fly and loaded correctly. Other reasons could be some disc error or USB connection problem; let's see if cropped files reappear... nevertheless I strongly advise you to backup your karaoke text files! And tell me if you have cropped files, too.

If you have a backup, there is an easy way to repair cropped files: just paste the text or drop the file onto the library backgroud.
Stable. Accurate. And medleys.

This release corrects a major bug in the editor playback: in/out points were rounded to the next frame instead of taking their envelope, resulting in a 25ms shift for a common 300 BPM tempo and silent playback for very short notes. You can verify the accuracy of the current release (and compare ith with other editors) here: How accurate is Yass?

Other major improvements were already communicated in previous news items: This release brings Linux support, sampled audio clicks, UTF-8 (nice greetings to the Asian Ultrastar community!), numeric keypad editing and Contour Shuttle Pro support (a great interface!), and a bunch of bug fixes.

As a bonus, I have now added medley support for the German USDX 1.0.1a Challenge-Mod (available here). Select your song in the Yass library and switch to lyrics view. Then select the lines you want to become part of the medley, and choose "Set Medley To Selection". Don't forget to save your changes. Video demonstration: Setting A Medley

Download and have fun! And don't forget to support me with a donation. I have hosting costs that I try to balance with advertizing, but it doesn't work yet. If you have suggestions, tell me.

New in this release:

Library:

MedleyStartBeat/MedleyEndBeat tags supported; can be set in library. Attention: for technical reasons, only full lines can be set.

Songinfo Displays Gap, BPM, MedleyStartBeat, MedleyEndBeat, PreviewStart, Start, End

Playback narrowed to selected lyrics

PREVIEWSTART tag can be set to selected lyrics in library

Library Preview respects PREVIEWSTART tag

Tags filter group for songs tagged with PreviewStart, MedleyStartBeat, Start, End, Relative, Gap<5s, Gap>30s, Gap>60s, BPM<200, BPM>400

Added Chinese and Korean flag

Bugfix: Flags are displayed again in language group

Bugfix: Sometimes cannot stop playback in library

Bugfix: Clear songinfo if no songs available.

Bugfix: Could not remove video file when opened in editor before

Editor:

Major Bugfix: Inaccurate playback (in/out points rounded instead taking floor)

Display waveform in editor to verify accuracy (via preferences/debug)

UTF-8 text displayed correctly within notes in editor

Optimized pitch range in editor's multi-line mode.

Editor layout and font size added to preferences (for TeLiX)

Editor search dialog revised: size, location, scrollbars (for yunho)

Debugging information: memory used/total/reserved (activated via preferences/debug)

Error console buffers console output (displayed via Shift-F1)

Auto-correction for non-zero beat at first note (for Ian).

Bugfix: Shift-p for playing a page with instrument only was broken

Bugfix: Seek-out set to 0 again: verified with Accuracy Test song and checked against Ultrastar Deluxe; see news item (thx Ian).

Bugfix: Could not remove video file when opened in editor before

Bugfix: Display lost after another app going into fullscreen, display mode changing (e.g. dual monitor), task manager being run, screensaver, standby or hibernate mode.

Bugfix: Jerky playback cursor for maximized window

For changes since version 0.9.6, see the full changelog.

UTF8 working, minor bugfixes. Please test.

Yass version 0.9.7.pre3 displays UTF-8 text correctly within notes in editor. I have optimized pitch range in editor's multi-line mode, and started to implement a few layout requests (customizable lyrics font size and position in editor); for now please regard this as unfinished. A newly introduced playback bug in the library is fixed, too. Lastly you can tune seek-in/out offsets for playback in the editor - but double-check it with what you hear in your fav player (Ultrastar, Ultrastar Deluxe, Performous). Thanks and greetings to yunho, TeLiX, Ian, and a few others.

Linux-compatible sound system, sampled clicks.

This pre-release of Yass 0.9.7 presents a reworked sound system compatible to Linux audio. Clicks now use sampled audio, the previous synthesized clicks can be reactivated in the preferences, editor-design tab. For a long time I believed I could not implement that feature due to a bug in the Java sound system (see e.g. 6251460) preventing short sound clips to be played correctly. I'm proud as can be. Besides I have also extended playback by a few audio frames, because very short notes couldn't be heard.

You can now use the numeric keypad for quickly editing a line with the numeric keypad. Keys "2/4/6/8" duplicate the cursor keys, "1/3" position the note, "7/9" stretches the note, and "-/+" set its pitch. Key "0" initializes the note (position it adjacent to the previous note and set its length to 1) and the digit key "," initializes the next note. Keys "h/j" scroll the note sheet and "k" zooms back to single-page view. Playback is triggered automatically to rehear the edits. You can remap keys in the preferences.
